prmeBy: Prof. Dr. A. H. Roslan Harahap

It was certainly an honour for OYA Graduate School of Business when Prof. Dr. A. H. Roslan Harahap, on behalf of the Dean, accepted the baton from Prof. Dr. Benito L. Teehankee, the Chairman of the 4th UN PRME Regional Asia Forum, to host the fifth United Nations (UN) Principles for Responsible Management (PRME) Regional Asia Forum in 2014. This handing over of the baton ceremony was held at the end of the 4th UN PRME Regional Asia Forum, which was held in Manila on 13-16 November 2013. The PRME Forum is a UN-backed initiative, which is under the purview of the PRME Secretariat of the UN Global Compact Office.

The 4th UN PRME Regional Asia Forum was hosted and organised by De La Salle University (DLSU) in cooperation with the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) and Ateneo Graduate School of Business, the Philippines. OYA Graduate School of Business was represented by Dr. Mohd Azlan Yahya and Prof. Dr. A. H. Roslan Harahap, who presented a paper entitled "Higher Education and Community Development", highlighting the possible role of higher education, particularly business schools, in community development and sustainability. While business schools could incorporate responsible management and values in their curriculum, it is argued that business schools could also be involved in and contribute directly towards promoting community development and sustainability. Thus, business students should not only be taught on how to maximise firm value, but also should be exposed to the importance of maintaining harmonious and sustainable relationship among business, society and environment.

As a committed signatory of the PRME, OYA Graduate School of Business believes her hosting the 2014 Forum will help to propel her into the limelight as a School that is dead serious about her tagline – TRANSFORMING LEADERS FOR SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS AND SOCIETY.
